– Former Real Madrid player Jesé Rodríguez spoke about the significant change in Portuguese coach José Mourinho’s personality, who has become much calmer, pointing out that the pressure he faced with Real Madrid was the main reason for the harsh personality he previously displayed.
Rodriguez said: “Mourinho was a good man and I think he still is.”
“But at one point, he confused his real personality with his role as a coach, as if he didn’t know how to separate the two or control it completely.”
“He mentally exhausted big players with strong personalities like Cristiano, Ramos and some other players.”
“Nevertheless, he is undoubtedly a great coach, that is clear, but I am speaking here about my experience and personal opinion.”
“In his last year in particular, it was very clear, he was extremely exhausted.”
“How did that show? In the way he trained, in the way he spoke and how he sometimes treated certain players.”
“I feel that the role itself worked against him a little and perhaps luck also betrayed him. The competition was very fierce and everyone was under a lot of pressure.”
“Mou was also under enormous pressure, especially as Barcelona had an exceptional team at the time.”
“So his role was never easy, but it seems that his character got a little out of control at the time.”
“Years later, when I met him in Italy and sat down to talk to him, I found him to be a completely different person.”
“He was calmer in his speech, more balanced. He seemed to me to have changed for the better. He laughed and joked; he was different.”
