Spanish stadiums have sometimes turned into arenas of racism, and Barcelona suffers from constant attacks on its players and identity. Fighting racism and hatred in stadiums is no longer an option, but a moral and sporting duty that cannot be ignored.

In last season’s match between Barcelona and Real Madrid, which ended 4-0, Lamine Yamal and Rafeina were forced to endure racist slurs such as: “Filthy nigger,” “Filthy Moroccan,” and “Go sell towels at the traffic lights.” On that occasion, these insults did not receive as much media coverage as they did with Vinicius in Mestalla last season, or what the Brazilian striker recently experienced from the supposed Benfica player.
There cannot be double standards against racism, and not only against racism, but xenophobia and insults in stadiums must be completely eradicated. It is regrettable that it has become normal to welcome Barcelona in many stadiums with the classic phrase: “Fuck Barcelona and fuck Catalonia.”
